Miles Boyer > 07-03-08. Another one of Camille's favorites. This was mine when I was a kid. Funny that some of Camille's favorite toys are the older toys that Kate and I had as kids.
Miles Boyer > 07-02-08. Care Bears.

I'm glad Kate saved these from her childhood. They are some of Camille's favorite toys.

Miles Boyer > 06-29-08. Help. I've fallen and can't get up!!!

This beetle seemed pretty helpless on its back. I flipped him over after taking this picture, making sure I stayed clear of those pincers.
Miles Boyer > 06-28-08. Crazy Uncle Dean setting a state record for the squat. This is at the American Powerlifting Association Missouri Championship. I think he lifted 430 pounds here, which is a new state record for his weight of 143 pounds.

I'll be posting more pictures from the day when I get a chance. Stay tuned.

Miles Boyer > 06-27-08. Giant Moth.

I guess I've never really noticed the barbs on a moth's legs before. Then again, I've not seen that many moths that are this big. This one was about 2.5 inches from head to tail. He stayed on the front door-step all day. Camille had to show it to me as soon as I got home from work.

After taking a few pictures of it, I actually pet it just to see what it felt like. He didn't seem to mind it too much. He moved slightly when I touched him, but didn't fly away. He was pretty soft, just like I thought he would be.
Miles Boyer > 06-26-08. So...Can you guess what this is. I'm sure some of you will have absolutely no clue. While others, like Momma, would know what this is in her sleep.
Miles Boyer > 06-25-08. Casper's.

I've never eaten here, but I hear they have pretty decent food. This is another old relic I wanted to capture before it was too late.

Miles Boyer > 06-23-08. Quick shot of some tall decorative grass next to our house. I was going for an impressionistic dreamy effect with the shallow depth of field and blurred background.
Miles Boyer > 06-22-08. Camille in Deep Thought. (actually she is watching the neighbor kid, Dalton, riding his bike)

Shortly after taking this picture, I noticed a thunderhead forming to the south of us. I've always been fascinated by watching thunderheads 'boil' when they are building up, and I've been even more fascinated by the time-lapse videos that show this process.

So, I decided to make my own. I didn't have the best vantage point, but here is what I ended up with.

Miles Boyer > 06-21-08. Yes, this was a last minute effort. We had a fairly busy day, and I hadn't even thought about taking a picture. I was laying in bed about to doze off, when I realized I hadn't taken a picture. I told Kate that I had to take a picture, but she thought it might be a good time to let it slide. I almost ended this 1257 day-in-a-row tradition, but I thought I could manage to get up and take a picture of something. I told her I would just take a picture of my feet. So, there you have it. I couldn't decide between color or B&W, so I did both. Pretty lousy picture, but better than nothing I guess.
Miles Boyer > 06-20-08. Harvest Time.

I had a hard time getting a good angle on this subject. I had to keep a few background distractions out of the frame while trying to keep everything else balanced. I do like the nice puffy clouds and the timeless look of the old truck in B&W.
Miles Boyer > 06-19-08. Another Stormy Day in the Ozarks.

Technically not the best photo, but it tells the story of the day. We had ANOTHER thunderstorm come through Springfield this afternoon. This storm brought high winds, hail, lots of rain, and even and EF-1 tornado. The tornado touched down just down the road from our office. This is the first time I've actually felt threatened by a storm.

The sun was shining at our office when the storm sirens came on. I thought it was a false alarm when I looked out my window and didn't see anything. Then I looked to the north and saw a huge dark cloud heading our way. I checked the radar and saw a bright red spot heading our way. About that time, the wind kicked up and the sun disappeared. Our power went out as soon as the wind and rain started. Inside our metal building the sound of the rain, wind, and hail was deafening. The front doors of our office started flapping open and closed. While I was trying to pull them shut to lock them, I saw this limb (which is actually half a tree) fly through the air in front of me. This is when I decided to take shelter in the bathroom.

The worst of the storm passed by in about 10 minutes, but it continued to rain pretty hard for another 30 minutes. As you can see, the hail piled up in our parking lot. It wasn't big enough to do too much damage, but there was enough of it to shred the leaves on all the trees. Out of the 12 bradford pears around our parking lot, 2 of them are a total loss, while the rest of them lost a number of limbs.

The limb in this picture actually flew about 100 yards and landed in our parking lot. I happened to look outside when it flew right in front of our office. After the storm passed, I checked around to see where it came from. It came from a tree 2 doors down. It passed over several cars and a small fence before it landed in our parking lot. The car lot next door had several large branches sitting on top of their cars.

While I was out surveying the damaged after the rain stopped, I saw Noel drive by our office. I figured he was on his way to remove a tree from a house or something. Sure enough, the first story on the 6:00 news was Noel and the rest of the crew at A&A Tree Service cleaning up a huge tree on top of a house.

Yes, that is my motorcycle in the picture. When I left for work in the morning, they called for a very slight chance of scattered showers. Luckily I was able to park it under the canopy at our office. I should have just pulled it inside, but I didn't realize how bad it was going to get. By the time I left the office, the rain had stopped, and I made it home without getting too wet. It did take me about 3 times as long to get home. A combination of sightseers and missing traffic lights made for a slow drive home.
